New answer is "no". That technique doesn't work on Leopard I believe, and in Leopard and later the Dock process runs so many things other than just the dock at the bottom of the screen. Hiding the dock is really the best way to go I'm afraid!

The "R" indicates which of your apps aren't Intel-native, and will run under the Rosetta emulator.

You can switch off the display in the Docks section of the Preferences.

Q: How do I add the Finder to list in DragThing's Preferences and Options windows, such as "excluded applications", "never hidden applications", "permanent items" or the visibility lists?

A: The easiest way to add the Finder to such a list in DragThing is to drag the Finder icon from the Process Dock into the list. If you don't normally have the Process Dock showing, just switch it on temporarily from the Window menu.

Q: I've hidden the DragThing icon from the Apple Dock, but I've forgotten how to show it again. I can't get to the Preferences any more. What do I do?

A: Just click on the DragThing icon at the right of your menu bar - you can access the Preferences from the menu that appears.

Q - Hey, I've got a really cool mail app. Can you add support for displaying the number of unread messages on the icon? What about custom contextual menu commands?

A - It's all AppleScript based - assuming you can return the number of unread messages from your application via a script, it's very easy to add.

First, quit DragThing. If you look inside the Resources folder of the "DragThing Helper" app, inside DragThing itself, you'll find a scripts folder.

Create a script in the style of the others in there that returns a number (or an array of numbers). Save the script with the name set to either the bundle identifier or the creator code of your app. Run DT, and it should just work.

You probably don't want to do too much work in the script because it will be run periodically. Ideally, keep the main part down to a couple of lines.

You can also do a similar trick to add items to the contextual menu for your app - see the "Contextual Menu Items" folder in the Scripts folder accessed from the

Re: Running app indicators in 5.3

Q - I don't like the new running application triangle things in DragThing 5.3. Is there a way to put them back the way they were?

A - Indeed there is! Just paste the following into Script Editor and run it:

tell application "DragThing"
set use old style running app indicators to true
end tell

Hey presto!
