[quote=ilias]I noticed today that while looking at the available feature packs in the PCalc Store in the settings menu, changing orientation on the iPad causes that orientation to remain stuck. You are then unable to get PCalc to change orientation unless you kill the app and restart it.

It seems to happen only in the PCalc Store menu and no others. It doesn't happen on the iPhone.

 Posted by Rob Lewis:
Well, actually, it's not quite right to say "input smaller figure" first. You should maybe say "input base figure". Because percent changes can be negative, too.

Example: what is the percent change between a base value of 200 and a new value of 180? Solution:

200
Enter
180
Delta percent

Answer: -10%

And you really should try RPN! It takes just a bit of getting used to, but it's faster, more logical, and (I would argue) less prone to errors. You never have to deal with parentheses. Millions of HP calculator users can't be wrong :-)

Full disclosure: I'm the guy who badgered poor James into adding the delta percent function to PCalc.

M in (insert) sets the memory to the value in x, M re (recall) sets x to the value in the memory.

So, just type 1000, M in, will set the memory to 1000. Then M+ to add some values, and finally M re to recall it.

Hope that helps!

I concur whole heartedly. I am a digital design engineer and I have to deal with signed hex numbers all the time. I just recently purchased the full blown version of pcalc for my iPhone and was disappointed with the behavior of the hex calculator. If you only need to deal with unsigned numbers it will work just fine, but as soon as you need to do any signed numbers it fails miserably. A simple solution would be to make one of the buttons (A->B) into a signed selector when Hex,Oct,Bin is selected. Then when you are performing the operations with these types of numbers, the operations could work. A representation of -FFFF does not make any sense in any context (except maybe signed magnitude) and in my option should be eliminated from the implementation. Thanks for your consideration.

 Howdy, James et. al.,

Perhaps I can help with your hesitation:

- Watch out for the "it's always been done this way" trap! This way lies madness (or an inferior product as other innovators innovate), but you already know that.

- The current way is inconsistent. 5/6*7+0 should evaluate the same as 0+5/6*7 no matter how you look at it.

- It's easy enough to parenthesize desired terms to specify precedence, but the current method is (from my amateur mathematician's POV) just inaccurate, and that bugs me.

I hope something up there convinces you to change PCalc's behavior... in any case you've still got the best darn iPhone calculator out there - keep it up!

Thanks for listening,
-Don

I was quite surprise that this feature was not available. Reason I bought the calculator cause I think it could add time... my mistake for not properly evaluating the product before hand. Bought it in the middle of the night :(

I work in the aviation industry. You could say more than half of us already bought the Ipad by now cause it replaces all our manuals and notes that we carry to work. Part of our job is also to track time (flying hours that is) How much time do I work a week, how much time do I work a month and hoe much a year etc. Also tracking how many hours flown during the day or night.

For that I had to buy a calculator (Casio fx-991ES) It has a button ( ' " ) where you hit after you type a number to indicate Hours, and if u type another number and hit the button again it will indicate Minutes and if you hit a number and hit the button again it will indicate Seconds. It also work for Latitude and Longitude.

As previous posters, I too would like to see if this could be possible on Pcalc. I
